For many years, amalgam (a mix of mercury and other metals) was the standard way to fill in cavities. Unfortunately, amalgam is so dark that it can have a drastic, negative impact on the way a smile looks. It also poses certain oral and overall health risks. Today, a more aesthetically pleasing alternative is available. Tooth-colored fillings are made of a special composite resin that blends in with the color of the enamel around it. These restorations are beautiful, durable, and biocompatible.
Inlays and Onlays
Inlays and onlays, also called “indirect fillings,” are restorations that treat a decayed tooth, helping it to maintain its function and appearance (an inlay goes between the cusps of a tooth, while an onlay covers one or more of the cusps). These porcelain pieces are custom-made to fit in with your teeth, and their color is so close to that of natural tooth enamel that they’re virtually invisible once they’re in place. Inlays and onlays are often used to treat cavities that are too big for a filling to correct but not so extensive that a crown is necessary.
Are you ready for a total smile transformation? Porcelain veneers are thin pieces of porcelain that Dr. Michel permanently attaches to the fronts of teeth. Their purpose is to disguise a wide range of cosmetic flaws, including cracks, chips, discoloration, and minor misalignment. The process for placing veneers usually only requires two appointments in our office, and the results of the treatment can last for 10 years or longer with proper care.
Teeth naturally become discolored over time due to daily habits like drinking coffee and snacking on dark foods. Genetics and environmental factors can also contribute to a smile that is a little lackluster. Dr. Michel offers both in-office and at-home whitening treatments that can remove even deep-set stains from your teeth. The in-office treatment takes only about one hour, whereas the at-home process requires several days to reveal the most dramatic results.
Do you have crooked teeth but don’t want to put up with the discomfort and embarrassment of traditional metal braces? Instead of using brackets and wires to correct misalignment, Invisalign uses clear plastic aligners to apply gentle pressure to teeth. Eventually, the teeth are repositioned into their proper places, revealing a straighter, more attractive smile. Invisalign is an ideal treatment for many adults with mild to moderate orthodontic issues.
